Set in the heart of the Centro Histórico of Santa Marta, El Sanatorio occupies the former Hospital del Tórax (annex of the old Hospital San Juan de Dios) — coral-stone walls, century-old arches, high ceilings that hold decades of clinical secrets.

The space has been designed to create unique experiences: the calculated dimness, the smoke from the coals, the ambient sound design and the curated horror staging turn every event into something between memorable and unsettling.

Questions

Everything you Need to Know

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend reaching out at least 2 weeks in advance for small groups (up to 12) and at least 4 weeks for a full buy-out (up to 30). For high-end corporate events, a month or more guarantees the best possible experience.

Can I bring my own DJ or musician?

Yes, with prior agreement. The space has a professional sound system built in. Your artist must work with our system and the Centro Histórico volume limits. We also offer resident DJs with curated set lists.

Do you offer non-alcoholic options?

Absolutely. Our cocktail programme includes a full line of signature mocktails with the same complexity and presentation as the alcoholic cocktails. No one will notice the difference — except for the absence of a hangover.

Is the space accessible for guests with reduced mobility?

Because the building is the former Hospital del Tórax (annex of the old Hospital San Juan de Dios), some areas have architectural limitations. The main floor area is accessible. Get in touch ahead of time so we can adapt the layout to all your guests’ needs.

Can I decorate the space with my own items?

Yes, within agreed limits. We work with you to integrate your items into our aesthetic. We don’t accept anything that damages the heritage building, or open-flame items outside our safety setup.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Cancellations more than 15 days out receive an 80% refund on the deposit. Between 7 and 14 days, 50%. Less than 7 days, the deposit isn’t refundable but can be used as credit for a reschedule. Every case is reviewed flexibly.

Do you offer options for formal corporate events?

Yes. Although our identity is dark and irreverent, we adapt the thematic intensity to the context. We’ve hosted everything from board meetings to product launches with an elegant, minimalist look within our aesthetic.

Do you accept themed events (Halloween, etc.)?

El Sanatorio is the most natural place in the world for Halloween and horror-themed events. We also host vampires, witches, noir, dark cyberpunk, elegant gore, and any theme that lives in the shadows. Tell us your vision.
